None of these individually is catastrophic. The pattern is what's worth noticing.

Teams has grown from roughly 75 million daily active users in 2020 to what's likely north of 400 million by 2026, and that growth has outpaced the maturity of some of the infrastructure underneath it, according to reporting following the June incidents. The more Teams becomes the place where meetings, incident response, help-desk escalation, and telephony all live at once, the more a “brief” outage becomes a genuine productivity event rather than an inconvenience.

The practical guidance showing up across IT community discussion of these incidents is consistent: don't rely solely on public status pages or Downdetector, since they don't know your specific tenant or network. Monitor your own sign-in failure rates, keep synthetic checks running on critical collaboration paths, and — the part most organizations skip — make sure your incident response channel doesn't itself live entirely inside Teams, since that's exactly the tool that might be down when you need it.

This isn't a case for abandoning Teams. It's a case for treating “what do we do in the two hours our primary collaboration tool is down” as a real plan rather than an assumption that it'll never happen.
